Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, Manny Pacquiao.
These are the best of the best in this era and arguably the all time
greatest in their field of discipline – basketball, golf, tennis, boxing.
People have always been searching for the best in any sport, industry, or
arena, Why is that? Probably because inside of us we are fascinated with
and drawn to the ultimate.
It is always a wonder and a privilege to watch
any of these players do what they do best.
But when it comes to Christianity, what is the ultimate? What is the
greatest?
What is the “summum bonum” the ultimate good?
If there is one thing that could be labeled as the ultimate, it is love. For
love is defined as the greatest of all.
The greatest of all the commandments. When we love, actually we fulfill the
law (Rom 13:8).
The greatest of all the motivation. That is why God sent His son for us.
(John 3:16)
The greatest in eternity – above faith and beyond hope, love is the
greatest. (1 Cor 13:13).
If you want to be the greatest, be filled with the greatest thing in the
whole universe – be filled with love – God’s love because the love that we
need cannot originate with us. Because in order to experience the greatest,
we need to go the ultimate source of love, God himself.
As it says in 1 John 4:16-17 “God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in
God, and God in him. In this way, love is made complete among us…”
I hope all of us would learn to do this because it is not Jerry Mcguire who
will complete you, it is God who will complete you so that you can
experience and express the greatest thing is the universe – love.
